Urun Islampur (or Islampur for short) is a city and a municipal council in Sangli district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. As of 2011 Islampur had a population of 67391 . Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Islampur has an average literacy rate of 75%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 80%, and female literacy is 69%. In Islampur, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age. The city is located just 3 km east of the Pune-Bangalore National Highway Number 4 (NH 4). One can have easy access to three major cities, viz. Sangli, Karad and Kolhapur from Islampur since they are nearly the same distances. The Taluka place is Walwa, which is 10 km from Islampur but all the Judicial, Panchayat, and Tehsil related procedures are carried out in Islampur.
