Ongole is a city in Prakasam district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The Municipality was formed in the year 1876 and was upgraded to Municipal Corporation on 25.01.2012. The city is a municipal corporation and the headquarters of Prakasam district. It is also the mandal headquarters of Ongole mandal in Ongole revenue division. The city is the 13th most populous in the state. Ongole is known for its Ongole cattle, a breed of oxen. This is one of the world's major zebu cattle breeds.
