Mukhathala is a small town and block panchayat in the Kollam district of Kerala, India. The area is known for the famous Murari Temple which holds a unique position in the cultural history of Travancore. This temple is approximately three thousand years old. The temple is situated in the ‘Thrikkovilvattom’ village on the Kollam- Kulathoorpuzha state highway side, nearly Eight kilometers from the Kollam town. Trivandrum International airport is the nearest airport. The nearest railway stations are Kilikkollur Station(Kollam-Tenkasi route, regular trains not available) and Kollam Junction(Trivandrum-Ernakulam route). As per provisional reports of Census India2011, the population is 191,349; with a density of 3,200/km2 (8,200/sq mi). The official languages are Malayalam and English.
